Not good. And if that's the case, it really sucks cause it could be extremely limiting. At least with plantar fasciitis, although painful, you can generally go about your business with a little care and anti-inflammatories.

Rain delays can be Mana from heaven for the player behind. (still remember the rain delay at 04 W Semfinal when Linds was leading by a set and a break over Maria) I would say both women would have some momentum going forward through to the USO , but the whole injury bug has been so contagious you just don't know.

Congrats to Kim on a hard fought, gutsy win.

Dr. Wolf sticking muzzle in. I thought they said she was having problems with her left heel. That sounds suspiciously like plantar fasciitis. Actually, that would be one of the better things it could be. Since treatment is usually proper footwear and stretching. she had been doing a lot of running and with out that start and stopping, I would think her calf would have tighten up.
That the trainer wrapped it up her ankle makes me think it's Achilles tendon related. Plantar fasciitis is bottom of the heel and foot, but the achilles inserts where your ankle ends and heel starts. (Nike shoes give me tendonitis there.) (And since I'm just like Maria, etc etc. ha ha.) That too is just a guess. I imagine you're right about the starting, stopping, and starting again thing.
Actually, the plantar band/muscle stretches the full length of the foot. I have had PF in my heels but also in my arches. You can treat it with a Z-Pack and in p-t, besides stretches they also use electronic currents and an ultrasound device. It takes a good 6 weeks to get over it. They make a boot to sleep in. I have the soft boot but I really think the other boots are better.

I meant the bottom of the foot (the entire foot) as opposed to up the back of the heel.

I had it so long ago that there were no night socks -- they plastered up my foot and calf, cut off the front of the dried cast so I could take it on and off, and then I had to wrap an ace bandage around the entire contraption to keep it on in bed. I wore those hard casts in bed every night. Ugh. Glad it hasn't come back!!

Has anyone heard the latest on her condition? So far as I can tell, she's hoping to be up and running in a few days. With any luck, it was a mild strain.

I think Masha should be ok....

Mary Jo Fernandez and Cliff Drysdale are rubbing and massaging that tender foot as we speak...
