And now Vera's opponent retires injured .... CASEY!!! You had extra days to make your voodoo doll even better.
Livestream did not provide this match. Livescores posted what appeared to be a lively first set, 6-7. What happened to Victoria?
Blister on her left foot!

...She said the injury was not severe enough to keep her out of the U.S. Open.

“It’s just one of those things you can’t do anything about,” said Azarenka, who was in tears as she spoke to reporters after the match. “I tried to deal with it, but I couldn’t continue.”...

Foot blister, or blisters, was the excuse provided. She had two set points but couldn't seal it. It's a shame, but I think it was wise for her to call it quits and gather herself for next week. Nice job Vera, and good luck.

I would like to bid goodbye to Kimiko Date and say hello to Maria Kirilenko, if I might. Nostalgia is only good for a short while.

Rex, I am requesting a trade of two of my team members. Exchange Michael Llodra for Shahar Peer and Jeremy Chardy for Stanislas Wawrinka. Shahar and Stan will join the other SUPERSTARS for USOpen2010.

Rex,

Three days ago, I requested the trade of two team members. Since posting the request to exchange Llodra and Chardy for Wawrinka and Peer, I've calculated that the choices would put me beyond the 30 points allowed. So, I will remove Shahar Peer[3] and substitute Agness Szavay [2] for her. If Agnes is not available, I am drafting Patty Schnyder [1] for Team Ebony.

As of now, the following players make up Team Ebony for USOpen2010:

Roger Federer - 6
Caroline Wozniacki - 5
Agnieszka Radwanska - 4
Nikolay Davydenko - 4
Andy Roddick - 4
Stanislas Wawrinka - 3
Kaia Kanepi - 2
Agnes Szavay - 2
(alternate: Patty Schnyder)

I will assume the choices are settled if I do not here from you. Thanks for your consideration in this matter.

holding a match to the foot of my Vika doll worked wonders. Too bad, I couldn't do the same with the Caro doll.

There is devilment afoot at these tournaments, always. First, our Roger was turned into an ice cream cone. Then they tried to malign our character with false reports of robotics. Now, we learn that voodoo is alive and well.

Team Ebony, we're headed for the mountains to talk to the shaman before entering the arena!!!
