Well, if I hadn't have seen it I would never have believed it. A 1956 or 1957 DJ3A with a factory automatic column shift transmission - naturally it has the four cylinder L head engine. This jeep was purchased originally on a US Navy contract -- It has a brass tag, but there wasn't enough light to read it. It is 2WD, and has a quaint auto trans shifter on the column. Now, at first glance I thought that this had to be some sort of swap, but it fits so perfectly on that jeep -- column shift and all--- including the shift knob look very original to me. The brake pedal is unique -- The body is exceptionally solid. It had a hard top and fixed windshield at one time, although at present it has a 3B windshield frame. If anyone is interested I can get photos of it -- The shift lever and gear indicator are so, so, so--- I don't know any other way to say it.... "cute" |

I will get some pictures as soon as I can. The fellow that owns the jeep lives around 50 miles from me, so it won't be right away. We did some horse trading the other day and he needs to come down to pick up a couple of body tubs... He is going to the Willys reunion at the Kings Island Inn site in Ohio in May. I'm going to try to talk him into bringing that jeep to the reunion. He has more exotic jeeps than the DJ3A, but the DJ3A is probably tied for most unique along with the CJ2A wrecker. |

Just a teaser here today to bring this 7 year old topic to the front. Colin and I are discussing this VERY SPECIAL DJ3A with its owner right now. Stay tuned and hopefully the owner will jump right in here to tell you about it himself. If not, I can tell you it will be at The Willys Jeep Rally, College Corner, OH June 3-4 along with a bunch more unusual Willys. |

Not to hurry here now. Colin and I take our research very seriously and do not move forward without permission. Just keep checking in on this, the best DJ3A Dispatcher site, for very exciting news about this, probably last of its kind example. Be patient or get yourself to The Willys Jeep Rally on June 3-4, 2016. http://www.mw-willysjeep.com/ |
