Got my eyes on a donor tub and was wondering about weight and whether it will easily fit into the bed of a 6' 6" truck bed or would I need to drag a trailer along to make it easier? Can twp people move one without leaving testicles on the ground?

I'd suggest you take a trailer along if you want the job to be "easier" (than the bed of a pick-up). Remember that the tub is roughly 4' 9'' wide X 7' (+) long. Though I don't really know the weight, two body builders could most likely handle just the tub quite easily; however, if you really don't want to leave the cajoney's behind, or be down in the lower back for no telling how long, I'd recommend a minimum of three adults (four would be even better) to do the moving. The tub should be an easy two man job. Like Larry said, a flatbed trailer would be handy, but not necessary. If you are going to put it in the bed of the pickup, bring along a couple of 8 foot 2x4's, an 18 volt impact driver (or drilll), a hand saw, and some 2 inch drywall/deck screws to make any braces you may need. I always throw some scrap 2x4's in the bed of the truck anytime I haul something. Sometimes I need 'em and sometimes I don't. It should lay down fairly nicely in the bed. Now, you will have to think about which way you put it into the bed, but look at the wheel wells on the pickup bed. If you do some "cypherin' " you should be able to either turn the bed upside down, put it in aft end first and fit the tub just over the wheel wells. You also may be able to put the tub in right side up, put it in fore end foreward and fit tub wheelhouses just over the pickup wheel wells. |

A full sized short bed pickup and two men should work just fine. Lower pickup tailgage onto its cable stays. Load the jeep body tub with the top side up and with the back end toward the pickup truck bulkhead. Place the body tub wheel well openings over the truck wheelhouse. The jeep wheel wells should clear the pickups wheel house. This locks the jeep tub into the bed and leaves the front of the jeep sitting on the opened tailgate. You may have a little room left to put other parts between the tub and the trucks bulkkhead. |

The tub only will weigh 220 pounds +- unless a lot of extra metal has been welded over the top of the sheet metal. |

Me and my buddy carried my tub from the back yard, around the house and out to the driveway where the frame waited. We lifted it high enough to clear the steering column and slide it in place. Personally, I thought the tub would be heavier than it was. I didn't drop anything on the ground. I don't know about my buddy - he can worry about himself.  |

Two strong guys with good backs can defintely get the job done. I put my freshly painted 3b tub into the back of a Mazda truck just fine. I lined the truck bed with old blankets and put it in on its side. It worked fine and didn't hurt the paint at all. I have a picture I could post but I'm not sure how. Nick. |

got it from a guy who got it from a guy etc. it was all together a couple owners ago, i think someone decided to rebuild it and lost intrest after the teardown its pretty rough, but i'm going to work with what i got and get it back on the road. i lucked out and got a complete rolling chassi ( everything!) for the grand total of $60, the only thing that was missing was the parking brake and starter. was going to swap in a volkswagen idi diesel, but decided to go with the f-head if i can get it to run ( antifreeze in the oil- might just be the head gasket) if the motors pooched, i might go with the ford 4 banger for cost reasons. |
