Picked up a pair of Dualmatic lever hubs for $6 ea at the local pullapart wrecking yard up in Atlanta a couple of months ago and finally got around to installing them... nothing wrong with the later dualmatics, just not lever hubs

I just bought some locking hubs on e-bay for $10.50. They had a small part missing that I made easily. I just installed them today. Do you think there will be any differenct in gas consumption?

The lockouts that I bought are Allstate by sears. Does anyone know if they should be oiled or greased on the inside?

Bruce,
Lockout hubs certainly are not the most expensive accessory.
However in my opinion they are the most cost effective option of all.
When so equipped nearly all jeeps will benefit tremendously.

You both got a great deal,
I also have both style of Dualmatics and while I like the looks of the lever style,I like the quick action of the of the twist-lock style.
I would think that the Allstate units would require some lubricant in select areas where things mechanicaly slide or pivot. Can you post up a pic if those? Seems like they would have been made by one of the few manufactures and private labeled for Sears/Allstate.Should be some differance in gas consumption although I primarily run them so as not to rotate all the front driveline components and dont worry so much about the milage.

Here are some pics of the Sears lockouts. I've greased the cover and oiled the square keys.

Great set of Allstates, I've never seen a set like that, thanks for posting a pic.

Bruce,
I've got a pair of Dualmatics similar in design to the second image labeled 'Old Hubs' at the top. My Instructions that came with the hubs states:

"Hubs may be greased as often as front wheel bearing is serviced. Do not pack hub full of grease, but grease lightly using a light chassis grease."

Seems to be a common sense approach.

Those look good Bruce.
Solid looking exterior construction, the selector looks well protected from possible damage while wheeling,I like that.
Thanks for posting the picture.

I have Dualmatic hubs, but most of the time I leave them locked because the various gaskets in the drivetrain seem to leak less when they are exercised. Gas mileage not being a huge concern...

I've always liked the looks of the dual lever lockouts. If I got my hands on a set I'd install them on my '53
