My 53 3B had a data plate on the driver's side of the firewall that was removed before I bought it. The mark left on the firewall measures 2 3/4" long by 2" high. There were only two screws holding it on towards the top of the plate. Anybody know what is supposed to be there? I have ordered the new caution plate and patent plate for my rig and would like to replace whatever is supposed to be here if possible. I did a search but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance for any help. |

That little plate had patent dates and your VIN number on it. Your VIN should also be on the right front frame horn, usually on top, possibly behind the grill mounting bracket. Happy Trails, Ed |

Randy, Does your Jeep have a serial number plate in the correct location (passenger side firewall) or is it missing all together? If it's missing all together, maybe a previous owner screwed one on in the wrong location. CJ5's have their serial number plate in the location that you've described. Maybe the PO didn't know and put one in the wrong location. As far as I know, there is nothing that is supposed to be there on a 3B. I measured a 3B serial number plate from a 53 and it's 3-5/8" wide by 1-13/16" tall. There is a good picture of where the serial number plate should go, but I couldn't find it when I just looked on the site. It's got to be 70 outside; gotta go take the 3b for a spin Doug |

Ed, Doug & Randy, I do have the Patent Plate on the passenger side of the firewall. I had to call Walck's today regarding some parts and ask Daniel about it. He said as far as he knew there was nothing there on the driver's side. I'm thinking it wasn't a plate at all but something else was there and left a mark that looked like there was a plate there. So, for now I am assuming this was all a false alarm. :-) Thanks to all that replied |
