I recently acted on Ed Wilson's for sale post and not only met a great guy but I got to drool over his 3b and beautiful surroundings. I drove down to North Carolina and after 8+ hrs behind the wheel I brought home a nice Bantam trailer, a pto setup, Koenig hardtop and doors, repro windshield frame, and an original rear seat frame.

Ok here's the second part about the seat frame. It's in unusable shape but I think I can make these with the help of my sheet metal and pipe bending skills. I'm going to try and make one for the rear of my 54 and 62.

The question I have is can you still get the rear clips that mount in the rear of the tub that the seat frame pins drop in or are they something I'll have to hunt for?

Thanks Ed for the cool loot, Chris

Chris,
They are readily available from several vendors including Walck's, Northstar and Beachwood. You may also want to review Slickwilly's rear seat build on his CJ3A website: http://www.cj-3a.com/Back%20Seat.htm

Yes, I enjoyed the Jeep fellowship too, Chris. A great day! You're pretty good guy your self.
I really appreciate the tip on removing the steering wheel, it works, I tried it.

I thank you for the cool loot, I've always liked Yankee greenbacks!

CoppersWilly,

can you post any detailed pictures of the rear seat frame you have ?

from your knowledge are these rare - I dont see alot of info on them ...

like the front feet - and the rear pin legs ? , on 3B page there isnt much I could fine on the front feet which I think are L shaped and slide into a holder/loop of some sort ...

the 3A site has some great pics ...

I sure can I was at the hardware store today trying to get some steel pipe to start making these seats. I have a bender. I made a duck blind by hand bending tube so I think with this seat frame as a template I can make these pretty cheep and easy. The pins for the rear leg might be a challenge to get but I'll try. I haven't had a chance to call about the seat pin brackets.

I'm not sure how rare they are but I haven't seen many in my travels and I travel far and wide for jeep stuff to. I do know there was two kinds of rear seats used in 3b's a solid frame and a frame that hinged so you could fold it. I want to try and make both. I have a 54 3b and a 62 3b that both need rear seats.

these are the best pics I have seen of the 3B rear seat - takes a bit of hunting on 3B page but the seat frame with holes in back plate is thought to be a 3A/3B original, there was also a repro seat which is missing these holes ...

and the best pic of the rear legs pins on a M606 seat - if you look closely you can see the front feet of seat also .. great pic

yjcanibul, They are some great pics. I was checking them out after I got the seat from ED. They were hard to find I'll agree with that.

I was thinking that I could make the pins out of rebar after some grinding and weld them to a solid washer then weld that to the seat foot. The front leg is simple heat bend and smash then round off the edges. I also have a lead on a getting the pans bead rolled with the original beading. It's all in the works.
