Well Boys, (and any Ladies who are reading this),

Like jumping out of a plane, there is not turning back now. I am working to have my own part of the 3B page. I took a wire wheel to my 63' 3B this weekend. Music playing, grinder spinning, paint chips and bondo flying, The project begins.

I made the first pass around the jeep and have discovered that there is quite a bit of bondo. A buddy of mine know how to work a mig welder and I will be stopping by a body shop to pick up some used sheet metal to make some patches. It only took about 2 1/2 hours to remove all the various fixtures (snaps for the roof, hood (See my last post), side steps, mirror etc...

I have never even attempted this before and the task is quite daunting. Wish me luck

Nick,

With a good bit of elbow grease as you're describing, I'll bet the jeep will look great when you've completed the patchwork and prepping, and then get it all painted and put back together.

The best of luck to you also from southeast Texas, where the weather has changed somewhat overnight and is providing some very strong and cold north winds.

I bought my 18ga sheet metal from Metal Supermarket I bought a 2'x 3' cold rolled sheet for $14.00 plus a $5 cut fee. It's nice working with clean new metal. Check with metal suppliers in you area.

Here's there website store locator;

Been done there done that. I replace 60% of my sheet metal. Jeep Panels Plus, Removed dozen bondo patches on the rest and mig welded patches in place. Though I had Stick welded before, it was my 1st mig welding project.

Nick,
Good Luck Bud, I spent nearly 3 years ( mostly Sat's when i could ) bringing my 54 3B back to life. I was finally able to send the results to Derek last month. He posted it on "The 3B Page" as Flat Fender Restoration, Clint Rushton's 3B becomes a You Tube Star. Pretty Proud moment when I first got to see her on the 3B page. It was well worth ALL the blood,sweat, LOTs of Beers, cussing from time to time, and I stopped counting the $$$ about a year into the job. I was forunate to have some Great help. Reading the posts/replys on the Bulletin board from ALL these guys gave me motivation knowing I was not alone in the Dream. Would I do it all over again???? YOU BET !!!
There is NOTHING like driving yer 3B down a Texas ( any ) country road watching the people watch you go by !!!!

Nick, keep us posted ... I've been taping things with a hammer - measuring - trimming a few things with the grinder so soon my bondo will be flying too !
