First of all your Jeep has a very nice original look to it .Thies Days at car shows original or originally looking cars get all of the attention . If you must ,for sheet metal, san blasted , I use Dupont self etch primer followed by high build Epoxy primer followed by Pollyurthane top coat . If you do not Sand blast forget the self etch. Do not san down to bare Metal un less necessary ,the origional paint is always the best primer. Stick to name bran paints ,Dupont , PPG Etc. I use Pro-Line Paint ,small co. but I love their Paint. I have been using U-Tech epoxy primers for some restoration work. The U-Tech line is the fleet or budget line for Akzo-Nobel. http://www.akzonobelcarrefinishes.net/default.asp?sid=65395 Check to see what your local body paint supply place sells. I was using Dupont until I moved. In my new neighborhood I couldnt get Dupont paints so I switched to what the local store carried. The lower end fleet paints are perfect for jeeps. Also see if you can get the instruction sheets for the paint you are buying. They have mixing, temperature and drying info. You will also need to know when it is ok to recoat without sanding a primer and when it becomes mandatory to sand a primer. Tom |
