1954 original data plate. Both my great-uncle & grandfather (the two previous owners) didn't believe in replacing anything that worked even a little. |

Chet, You probably don't remember looking at mine that close, but the previous owner had installed one of the three piece sets on the dash. I e-mailed your buddy that reproduces them across the pond and he says I should have the #2 style plate in my '53, however, I really prefer the #1 style (which I'll most likely order from him soon....again, I just hate to think that my order could be held up in NY by a bunch of igmo gov't agents like other's orders have). Larry S. PS...I'm supposed to have some help next Tuesday to install the new master cylinder. I'm going to have to buy a new left front brake line however as the one in the kit that Russell originally bought for your jeep is too short. I may end up taking the entire kit back to him for a refund as it was quite a bit more expensive that I thought it'd be. |

Some may have wondered..."why a poll on data plates...whats the big deal? It's confusing enough with two different guys named "Robert" - "Overseas" - making data plates...the plates available are just as confusing. Which one is correct for the 3B? Both? Robert de Ruyter in the Netherlands list either font for the 2A and only list the outlined font for the 3A. Looking at a close up shot of his plates, I do notice a few differences from an orginal 3B plate. ![]() I have ordered a "solid font" data plate from him and will let everyone know when it comes in and how it looks. Here is the link to his website... http://www.xs4all.nl/~rdrnl/4UWPWillysCJ2A.html Of course I have not found a repro plate that's made for Kaiser. |

Chet, As I mentioned in one my first posts concerning Serial Data Plates, Dudkowski, in Poland, will do custom work. What he listed on Ebay as correct for the 3A was identical to my '54 3B but one of the patent numbers were different. I pointed this out and he made a plate with the corrections and asked if I wanted it. If you see a plate that matches what you have (or similar models if you think yours has been replaced) then regardless for what model it's labeled for, go on and buy it. These two guys do excellent work but may not have access to every variation or have documentation for verification of each. My guess is they are making these plates from examples they have and match them up as best as they can. My suggestion is to go line by line to verify that their plate matches yours (for possible subtle differences) as you have done then email him with what you've discovered to see if he knows about it. If de Ruyter is anything like Dudkowski, he could make another one matching yours - not to mention the information needed to have another option. My plate is in storage and will add to this poll when I can get it out. |

My '54 has a data plate closest to Style 1 with differences noted by Chet plus the smoke and clouds. Can't post pictures from this site but here's a link: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/showphoto.php?photo=67994 I too have emailed both Roberts to see if there can be any interest generated. |

Hello!, Let’s introduce myself. Robert de Ruyter from The Netherlands from www.dataplates4u.com. Some of you guys already contacted me about dataplates. Myself have a Willys MB since 1992 and because the dataplates were missing I started making some for my Jeep and a friends Jeep. More can be read on my website. I did an extensive research concerning the styles used on the WWII jeeps and trailers and have already made many sets for satisfied Jeep owners all around the world. And all of those plates are stamped with custom made stamps to match the original stamping. All artwork which most be made before a plate can go into prodution is done by myself. Therefor I can put all effort in the artwork to get a plate as close as possible to the original. I did extend making dataplates to the CJ-2A dataplates and am willing to see which plates can be made for the CJ-3B. I already have made the zinc CJ-3B plate as pictured, also pictured in the post of Doug, a '53 CJ-3B plate. I have the following zinc reproduction: Original in top, my reproduction underneath it. Rus contacted for a zinc plate as pictured below. I already started making the artwork of this plate. To achieve an as complete as possible overview which and when plate was used, we need as much original dataplates as possible. To keep the input from you guys as short as possibe please send all original plate pictures including year and serialnumber to me. You can reach me through my website: www.dataplates4u.com Regards Robert de Ruyter The Netherlands |
