Just a question, I have been trying to determine the width of the tailgate opening angle channels surrounding the tailgate and give a bit more strength and finished look to the rear. Have looked at all the photos and the line drawing but without true dimensions I don't want to botch it up like the airline did. They had used 1/8" angle iron. I have figured out that there is a wide width and a narrow width to these angles. I just need to know, does the wide go on the outside towards the light panels or does the the narrow point in that direction. Also should the lower corners be mitred together or just a plain butt joint be made? If anyone can have an look real quick at this I really appreciate it.

Ian, I took a flashlight and a tape measure out to the bed that came off my '54. The angle is 1-1/2" on the outside (toward the lights), and about 15/16" on the inside of the wheelhouse. So the wide is on the outside. As for the corners, it is kind of a mitre. Please go to Specs and Tech tips, then scroll down to Parts, click on 1955 CJ3B details-a photo reference. Then scroll down to "Tail light-Left" There you can see the mitre in the angle frame. It starts about 3/4" from the bottom. Enjoy! Jenks |

Thanks Jenks! This will look make the back end look a whole lot better than the 1/8 x 11/2 angle iron the previous owner had on one side..
