Has anyone ever mounted a PS pump on an F-head for use with power steering on their 3B? I have been looking at Herm's PS kits and would be happy with a manual setup, but it sounds like a manual reverse box is hard to come by and not availible new??? I kinda kick myself because I had an opportunity a few years ago to buy a fairly new rebuilt F-head with a custom fabbed PS setup on it.But the guy thought it was made out of gold or something. My guess is it is still there. |

I have seen references to a F head P/S setup in the old Turner 4WD catalog. Don't know if there ever really was one, but if there was I'd look for it in the Jeepsters from the mid '60s and later. Your lower engine pulley has an unused groove, and some of the water pumps have an extra groove as well. |

i put one on a f head used a large angle iron, like 4x4and 6 to 8 long.mounted it on the drivers side to the head using 2 head boltswith the other angle pointing down, had to cut parts of the top angle to miss plugs and stuff.used a mid 70 gm pump and bracket, welded a piece of pipe to the down angle that the pump mounted to and turned it with a crank pully, adjusted by rotating on the pipe and tightening the pivot bolt.was a little red neck but worked for years untill i instaled a 4.3 votec |

Hard part would be finding a Jeepster with an F-head .Don't know how familiar you are with them Eddie but GM used a lot of pumps starting in mid to late 80's that had a remote reservoir. The actual pump was just the pump inards and the pulley. Less stuff in the way, shouldn't take much to fab up a bracket. Just a thought. |

PR....No 3B??? Ya need to get one!!! I am not too worried about making one work on the F-head.Just figured someone might have already done it,or had a simple solution.I have a 70 F-head out of a CJ5,but it did not have PS. I will travel this road when I get there. |

I'm sure you know this stuff but its food for thought. If you want power steering then additional engine power may become desireable. The power steering pump will help to sap your 134 engine of its meager HP. I actually prefer the manual steering systems for a couple other reasons. A manual system saves energy (not your energy), yeilding more MPG. A manual system allows one to roll the jeep down tall hills in "stealth" mode with the engine shut off. That saves even more fuel. Or engage the stealth driving mode when searching for game from a rolling jeep. Remember most state laws requires the hunter to be a specified distance away from the public roadway before the kill. |
