Let me first start off by saying this is not a CJ3b, but rather my dad's hunting jeep, a 1990 wrangler. I have to fix a bad spot in the frame so I'm taking the back tires off to get to it. They are rusted on solid. I heated them up a bit around the hubs, applied WD40, put a 6 foot bar on them, still have nothing. I was thinking of a come along between the wheels. That'd get at least one of them. Any suggestions? |

Bob, Or you could use a hydraulic Porta-Power with section extensions or secured cribbing between the rear wheels, loosening the lugs on the rim you're removing and making sure the lugs on the opposite side are tight, then reverse the operation for the other wheel. You may have to apply heat from an oxy-acet. rig while applying hyd. pressure and this may require another person to assist you. You didn't mention how you're planning to repair the frame, but I'd take every precaution back there with any welding due to the location of the fuel tank. Larry S. |

I really like the idea of loosening the lug nuts a little and driving around the field. Lots of left and right turns. Man, if that doesn't bust the wheels loose then you gotta think that they weren't rusted on in the first place, but welded on. good luck |

I'm going to remove the fuel tank. What I was thinking of trying tonight is put a come-a-long in between the wheels and tighten it, then smack the crap out of the tires with a large sledge hammer. I tried getting my small hydraulic jack in there but it was too big. |

I would try the wild field ride. Then if that doe’s not work try “Blaster” PB Penetrating Catalyst and some heat. Remember when heating something your trying to expand one piece of metal before the other. Heat the rim only and not the hub. “Blaster” is 10 x what WD40 when it comes to Penetrating Good luck |

I used an 8 lb sledge and it took about 6 whacks on each side. Got one of the brake drums off with my hands, the other one has a puller on it right now keeping pressure on it over night. |

Add one part heat from a torch , one part wd40 and 2 parts muscle from a no bounce sledge hammer. I worked on an John Deer tractor with spline axles that were rusted on. It took about 3 hours but it finally came off. Good Luck North Carolina Nick |

Here is the safest way to remove frozen rims...Take a jack and a 4x4 and place that between the rims while the vehicle is off the ground a little. loosen the lugs so the rims can pop. jack the wheels apart untill they pop loose |
