The question is why. Just buy a new Jeep wrangler that has all of that stuf. I have a 2001 Wrangler that I so far put 100K miles on it, no problems. I also have a stock 3B That I probabally like more just because its old and stock .my 2 cents.
Yes I do know what they say about options.

one bummer (for me) going to disc's is the original wheels wont fit

I think herm may have something for you, have seen early d25/44
kits on ebay also ...

57 3B : big speedo / Hurricane / YF 938 SD / IAY-4012 / T90 / D18 / 5.375 final drive / open diffs / Firestone 6ply Military NDCC / 12v Delco SI alt / Kayline Top / venting windshield / tub patched / "still fixing leaks one at a time"

89 wrangler : h/duty axles + 5spd / 200+hp 4.2L / arb locked / multiport fuel inj / warn hubs+winch / 1/4 mil km / fishing+trail riding / gets me to work

The front is easy. There are kits availible from everything you need to just the hard to find stuff and you search for the rest. You can use Dana 44 front caliper brackets.JP mag had a story on all you need to get-r-done. The Jeep Guy has kits availible.Ryan, great guy to deal with.

I'd just go 11" drums on the rear.More than enough for a little-ole-3B.

And the reason NOT to just go buy a Wrangler??? Mainly the COOL factor.4 wheel drive cars ain't COOL!!! Well.......maybe an AMC Eagle.

Real Jeeps don't have plastic dashes, plush interiors and cruise control. Yeah,I was temporarily insane and owned one.But then I was cured when it went bye-bye and a wonderful CJ2A came into my life. Then they just kept coming and coming. Now I am not insane, just diseased.Caught the old Jeep disease. No cures yet. :D

Telling someone to buy a wrangler isnt very helpfull.

I understand the pride in a stock/restoration. However not all of us are going for that. I just rebuilt my Fhead and it runs so nice now.. and frankly, I cant wait to sell the boat anchor and drop a real engine in my '54

There are things I like about the '54 3b, and things I dont like. Like the oil bath air filter. So glad I got rid of that thing.. and the fan shroud? what the hell use is that? tossed that out too. what about the 6volt system.. glad I am rid of that.

My new heavy duty starter never fails me thats for sure.

Old cloth wireing? hah, Im an electrician and i hate cloth wireing in houses too.

Frankly Id like to get a 6cyl in mine, rebuild the T90 tranny, add and overdrive, put a better steering box in (although it doesnt have to be power steering). I deffiently would like to change the brakes to something better.

I remember my friend was helping me with my engine rebuild, and one of the final touches I decided to ad an RPM guage. I cut a hole in the dash and my friend laughed and said some people would cry about that one.

but you know what?

Its my CJ, and even if all the upgrades changes and fun stuff I do to it ends up costing me MORE than a new jeep wrangler Id still do it.. because its MY cj3b, and maybe Im just fond of the old rust bucket and its history (was my grandfathers farm jeep). This jeep has memories, it was the first vehical I ever drove, and Ive had a love afair fixing it for years. memories of going hunting with my dad in it. Shes not much to look at right now, but even with that Boat anchor F-head, its still my DAILY driver.

Aside from my International schoolbus, its the only vehical I own that runs!

Just something to think about here.

Perhaps the main reason to upgrade brakes is because of other so called upgrades. Such as....
Upgrading to higher engine HP output and generally increasing a jeeps high speed useage.

Remember the CJ-3B is a progression from the original ultra light 1/4 ton reconnaissance vehicle design.
10" or 11" drums will easily increase the braking force with a minimal weight increase.
Currently building my final F-134 powered 3B .

Main reason I want to do a brake conversion is to help this 3b stop since now its going to have a few more ponys under the hood for now I want to use the dana 25 and 44 if possiable just add discs, later on down the line I plane on swaping in 1 ton axles dana 60 and dana 70 after I get them resized and built with dual piston disc brakes with 2 master cylinders 1 for the fronts and one for the rear
hope to have them finished by late july of next year I am hoping to get eng and trans installed this weekend but now thats on hold till my new trans input shaft comes in Ill get picts posted up this week end

Just ran across this link when I was looking through my favorites and remembered your post here.

Never dealt with these guys at all.

I don't even know how the price compares to other kits.

Quite frankly a dana 25/27 just isn't worth the bother to put on disc brakes. The ease of installing a dana 30 with discs already on it can be picked up for a fraction of what a "kit" costs to put on discs. The reason that people out here on the West coast swap out the drivetrain on these Jeeps is simple. The 134 doesn't have enough power to go up the hills and the 9" brakes won't stop you coming down the other side. Once you get through "upgrading" an old universal, all you have left is the tub and frame.
