I live in a small town in the colorado mountains where people leave their cars running at the post office, doors unlocked, and my cj3b is pretty safe. However I do like to go into the city on occasion (Denver). It would be nice to have a nice lockbox that can be removed AND secured. I was thinking some kind of locking box that fits in back, and some method to 'lock' the lockbox to the bed?? any lockboxes that fit nicely in the back of the jeep? Maybe I could weld a U onto it, and one onto the bed and use a padlock/chain to 'secure' it. |

These people have a lot of good ideas , They are a little pricey but thay are good quality stuff ... Like a safe ,,I dont thing Id want to lose the keys to them,, Check them out I have seen a few old milatary AMMO boxs used also ,, With a new seal they can be water tight , Weld a few claps & a couple locks (with like keys) .. would run around a $100.oo total with the hardware to bolt it down,, |

I put an military 30 cal box between my seats. It fits perfectly. I keep, Wheel chocks, Jack, registration, oil, gloves and a flashlight in it. I painted it the same color as the jeep so it looks great. The only other idea I have that might look good is the "under passanger seat box". Good Luck NC Nick |

I thought about the ammo box idea, but ultimately its too small. Im thinking I want this only for when I go into town. In case I go shopping. Id like to be able to lock up things I buy while I do other shit in town too. |

Since you are looking for more than just 1 or 2 cubic feet, I would suggest you consider a removable box that you can lock to the seats or bed area. Only put it in when you go to town. This way you will have the best of both worlds. A small lockable truck box might be a good fit for this. NC Nick |

Paradigm, Since we're all thinking outside the box here. . Oh boy. . I'll add my 2 cents to where Nick was heading in his last post. I've done a quick search on some lockable storage boxes and they all seem to run a few hundred bucks. Whether you buy or build a box (my thoughts are aluminum so you'll still have vertebrae discs after swapping the box in and out of your jeep), get one that fits between the rear wheel wells and can sit flat on the bed. Add tongues in front (actually under the bottom of the box and out of view) and use bolts in the back where the rear seat would sit. This will allow you to unbolt and remove it, just like a rear seat, when not needed. Plus it'll keep you from welding anything onto the bed. |

Ive seen a few that people have made than they put 4 9/16 bolts in the floor boards pointing up and out of floor with 1/8 holes drilled into bolts and holes drilled in bottom of box place washers with those R style pins to hold it in and from what I saw there prety tough little pins holds it in tight n snug and box dont budge where in colorado are you I'm in evergreen |
