So I tried to fish a wire down the steering column, with no luck. I tried everything, and it would get stuck some place at the gear box.

Do I have to take apart the box to do it?

Im pretty adept at fishing wires, as I do it all the time in my work. So not really sure whats blocking my path down in there.

You need to fish the wire up through the steering box into the steering column. The steering box has a small 1/4" tube about 10 inches long connected to the bottom that sticks into the column.

awww,,,, here is an article that will help.

tried BOTH ways and no luck, something is IN there blocking the way. I used wire from a welder, which is very stiff and thin.

It's possible. I had forgotten. Mine was plugged with some if the cloth insulation and mud. It was a chore to clean out. I took 1/4 all thread rod in from the top and worked and cleaned. Air from the bottom.

Good luck fishin'.

Go up from the bottom. Most likely the 'clog' is in the 1/4 inch tube. That tube extends upwards only about 10 inches or so. The end needs to be above the oil level in the steering box.

If you 'fish' wires at work you probably have access to a 12 inch drill bit -- say an eighth inch or so -- that'll take out the clog.

Do your level best not to damage the plug/tube assembly because they don't make them anymore and you will have to fabricate one. That isn't impossible, but it is a pain in the neck.
It's just my luck that something good is going to happen to me today.

Here's a few pictures of "the tube" that's connected to the steering box for the horn wire.

I wonder if my tube is missing, because I tried fishing from the bottom with no luck. The bottom is a big gooey hole filled with grease and grime.

Probably time to rebuild it.
