OK guys..the beast is home. I fixed the brakes while at the PO's house. We towed it approx 8 miles I did drive it home.. the last two miles. It ran good...but not a whole lot of power. The engine does smoke a bit. I'm ready to start the maintenance updates: Here are my questions: 1) What weight/brand engine oil should I use? 2) Should I change the filter too? (it still has the stock setup) 3) What weight oil in transfer case/tranny/pumpkins? 4) where can I get ignition parts? 5) Where can I get cheap tires? Thanx alot guys....I did do searches and could not find answers to these questions |

Like Lawrence refers you to, the tech bulletin should give you the oil viscosity of the various components; however, if you're not getting a good oil pressure reading from (what you are describing) a possibly well worn engine, you may want to use a heavier grade oil in the engine until such time it can be rebuilt. If you're located in a really cold winter climate, that may not work however. Down this way, I'm finding it more difficult every day to find straight weight engine oils. I use straight 40 wt. in the engines of my collection of vintage jeeps and farm tractors. As for parts, you should be able to procure engine ignition parts easily from your loacl auto parts stores. You can also click on the Site Map on the 3B header page which will lead you to various parts vendors specializing in vintage jeep parts. Regarding "cheap" tires, good luck finding any of those this day and time, unless you're looking for used tires. If you're looking for the military style tires, I've personally found that Wallace Wade Tires in Dallas, TX has probably the lowest prices of any tire vendor around. M.E. Miller Tire and Coker Tire also carry these styled tires and they'll all come up on the Internet when you type in the names. Larry S. |

Since this is a smoker I would use an inexpensive straight 30 weight if available.
Yes, Use the cheapest you can find for starters. I can supply if you can't find.
Dont change for now if its still relatively clean. 90 weight hypoid gear lubricant.
Can you you identify the distributor model ? I have some of this too if you can't find.
The only cheap tires anymore are used. |

You can get the parts you need for the tune up and oil change at Napa. If they have trouble finding whatever year your Jeep is, just tell them it's a 1970 with the f head 134. They an find the oil filter that way. |

Answers to your questions, Ignition parts - Napa Oil filter - Napa also Tires- If your looking for a non miltary standard narrow track tire have a look at Specialty tires of America and their Super Traxion models , have a look at their website. I have mounted 4 of these on my 56 and they look great and very suitable to the 3b. Dealers I used was Universal tires of Hershey Pa and ME Miller of Waseon, Ohio last year to get a set of four. Highest price I paid was 86 for one. Do a little search on the specialized tires website as they have a section that outlines who deals in their tires in your local area. both the above dealers doe mail order. For oil search the 3b website and stay with the dino juice variety not synthetic. |
