I have found a used Warn overdrive being offered for sale. The condition is unknown and probably wont be until its torn down. Any advice on a fair price? Consider it a rebuildable core. What should I look for that might give a clue on the condition? Its currently bolted to a T90/D18 in a non-running jeep. Tom |

TRUE Ideally the unit will have a light coat of clean gear lube on it. It will have zero rust and no chips in the driven gear teath. Make sure it fits your 6 spline T-90 output shaft. As some are for the 10 spline T-14 output shaft. Make sure the driven gear tooth count of the overdrive matches your T-90 mainshaft gears tooth count. If your TC has the 1-1/4" intermediate gear you "should" (unless modified) need 29 teeth mainshaft drive teeth. It's either 26 or 29 tooth. The thrust bearings (internal) are usually the first parts other than seals to need attention. |

Tom, I have to ask you a question being you are located in Rhode Island, (my mom and dad were there near Warwick before he got shipped to Saipan in WWII as he was in the Navy, and training at Camp Endicott). Are you near the City of Woonsocket? I'm curious as the second '53 3B I bought and restored (Oldtimer Ken has seen photos of that sweet little gal and knows the sad story of it almost not making it to Texas due to a serious wreck the haul truck driver had in W. Va.) came from a fellow there who was an auto mechanics instructor at a college located there or close by. I can't recall the gent's name just now, but during my decision making process to buy the jeep, I viewed photos he'd sent of severail other 3B's and a couple of 2A's as well, sitting in his yard. I think of that fellow often and wonder if he's still around and has any of the jeeps left. Thanks, Larry S. |

I just bought an old Warn overdrive a couple weeks ago, looks like was either never used or used very lightly. Mine is the 6 spline, 26 tooth. I paid $600 for it and the shifter, which seems to be the going price for them. It costs anywhere from $250-500 to rebuild them, depending on what might be bad in it. I saw a used and fairly beat looking one on ebay go for $730 right before I bought mine. The guy I bought mine from wanted $850. For that, you can get into a new one from Herm. |

Have not seen one sell for less then 400 in a long time. in bolt-on usable condition 600 seems to be the going rate. |

Thanks for the responses! It gives me what I need to look at it and decide if I can move forward or walk away. Looks like Herm is selling new Saturns for $950 so that puts it all in perspective too. Larry, I live in the southernmost part of the state near Newport. Woonsocket is in the northernmost part which means its 50 minutes away. Unfortunately I don't know anyone up in that area who might be able to give us a lead on your connection. I would enjoy checking out any jeep collection if you find out more detail. Tom |
