I have the front axle apart to put 11 inch brakes on my 61 3B. Parts suppliers list inner front axle seals for the Spicer 25. Mine has only a bronze thrust washer in the end of the axle tube. Is their a seal just outboard of the center section in the axle tube? An exploded view in my Willys service manual shows a seal where the bronze thrust washer is. My axle has the spicer knuckles. Craig, The model 25 has an inner axle seal located at the carrier housing and the axle tubes. It also uses an axle guide which is located there. The "GUIDE" is a conical flaired tube used to guide the axle shaft through the seal and into the side gears. The original seals were leather (Trostel). |

Here is a picture showing the seals & guide cones. They are easly removed once the carrier/ ring gear & axle shafts are out,I used a home made installation tool to re install them. One has to be carefull to get them started properly and then press them into their seats firmly. ![]() ![]()

Wow! Thanks for the pics. Those exploded views don't really show much. I'm not sure that I am ambitious enough to tackle pulling the carrier assy. Thanks again. Craig |

The forum site software limits the number of pictures to 3 in any single post, therefore I posted this last shot seperately to show the seals and guide cones in thier installed location.
