Here's a big, off-the-wall question. I have "inherited" a 1992 Wrangler YJ. Straight 6, automatic. Engine, trans, transfer case, axles are good. Frame and tub rotten. Hood, cowl, fenders good. Are there any parts on that thing that could be considered "bolt-on" upgrades for a 3B or are they so different that there's nothing there I could use? I'm not a torch man or a machinist so "bolt-ons" are my only option. I am going to see if the rear seat is usable but beyond that, I'm clueless. Thanks. |

Battery, tires, winch if equipped, just my $.02 Holy cow, it's got square headlights!!! Sell parts off the wrangler to fund more Willys parts. try craigslist.com, it's free to post in the for sale/parts area. |

John, There are way too many years difference and they are two completely different vehicles as far as "bolt-on" exchange running gear and sheet metal items are concerned in my small relm of knowledge. Many newer style engines, tranny's and axles, etc. have been re-installed in older flat fender (and round fender) jeeps, but not without considerable and not easily performed changes if one isn't set up to do that type of work. As my buddy Texan in Georgia recommends, part out the newer jeep and you'll come out way ahead, money and frustration wise. Larry S. |

i've driven a wrangler for 20 years now , there's bits and pieces you could make fit with enough effort but : axles too wide and drivers side pumpkin inline six is too long ( one of the best engines jeep ever built ) transfer case is left hand drop etc my 3B has some aftermarket tail lights and I have on occasion stole some 1157 bulbs for the wrangler the wrangler should have a 4L H.O. engine , if in good running cond it and the computer/wiring harness can bring decent $ , part it out for willy$ part$ |

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I expected, but I figured I'd ask in case there were some nice surprises for me hidden inside it. Guess it's time to find somebody who wants a good drive train and scrap the rest. |

JUST MY .02 WORTH ... Find a older (74 to 86) CJ-5 or 7 front clip & attach it to the wrangler it will sell faster,, There are a lot of people that like them but want the round head lights,, I all most bought one from a friend  ,, but I decided he wasn't much of a friend,, So I Bought a Cj-7 instead ,,

quick/dirty measure has the wrangler rear seat about 35" inches wide incl the metal rod/bracket , seems its just a bit too wide also ... i'd try the fit if my 3B was here as these seats are plentiful ... |

john you can use the leaf springs to swap to your 3b to give you a better ride. but they dont bolt right on, so it helps to have some fab skills.

Again, thanks guys for the guidance. I have tried the rear seat and it JUST fits into the 3B - about an inch to spare front to back doing fold and tilt. Cool, I have a rear seat. Now if only it were black instead of beige. Sigh. Can you dye vinyl? |

Thanks for the hint - I did some Googling and found these: Parasol - company makes a spray-on vinyl dye they claim won't chip or peel: http://www.parasolinc.com/Products.asp?ProductID=VARIKOTE Here's some basic info on dyeing vinyl: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/modding/46 As is usual with huge companies, I'm having a hard time finding a consumer dye product from Eastman. The bigger the company, the harder it is to find their product and buy it. I'll do some more searching when I've got more time. So the next question is - part of the YJ seat is cloth - is there a spray-on dye for cloth? The search continues. |
