well, still got several todo lists for my '57 , on the 'easy' list I need a jack reading 'the page' I see the original jack and sense they are rather scarse so, what are people using for jacks ? where are you storing the jack, swivel handle etc ? were they originally stored in the toolbox ? what did the crank handle look like , was it collapsable and did it fit in toolbox ? the 3B could also be started by a crank handle - was it same tool ? I like the one on my wrangler, its stored underhood, its low profile and the crank, wheel wrench and jack fit on tiny bracket, I think I could mount same on passenger fender of my 3B with a little effort, the wheel wrench has a swivel end that could be retro fitted with one for 3B nuts ...

I have a small bottle jack in the toolbox and a hi lift jack laid across the fenderwells just behind the seat secured to the body for off road help. Also have this little jewel along just in case; http://rescue42.com/jmr42.php Here's a pic in action; http://rescue42.com/images/jm-r42-pic1.jpg Turns the hilift into a safe winch to help get me out of a bind (since the Koenig is still on the garage floor.) OH yeah, just one more thing- keep your head out of the way of the jack handle or you may wake up several minutes later!!! |

Randy, I see original jacks listed on the 3B Parts Page of eBay every so often if you want an original era item for your '57. And as you say, with a little effort in fabricating, you can easily come up with a bracket to store the jack and folding handle (yep, the original folded in half so it'd store in the tool box alongside the jack) under the hood on the fender well. You'd also have to make yourself a bracket to tightly secure those items in the tool box if you didn't want them moving around and rattling when driving the jeep. Personally, I keep a four way (old style) spinner lug wrench in the jeep tool box (wrapped in a piece of an old blanket to keep it quiet), and a small hydraulic bottle jack and handle, a tow chain, and a few minor tools in an old 50 cal. ammo box that sits behind the seats.
