The search engine seems to be offline so I'll ask - probably a re-run for many of you. What's the scoop on putting a rollbar in an otherwise stock 3B? If there are any old posts on the subject, point me to 'em. Meanwhile, I've got this '92 YJ carcass with a rollbar. Can I tear it out and mount it in the 3B? Am I nuts? |

Roll cages are the most important part of the Jeep.. They save your butt,,Ive seen a few on E-bay that were stock ones for older jeeps,, If you make your own use only 2"Round tubbing not water pipe ,, I have seen water pipe spit down the weld ,, I bought a 1975 EX mud Jeep (body was shot) Paid 100 bucks to haul it away,, I used everything I needed for my Jeeps & it had a full roll cage .. I did some measureing on my 64 Willys Cj-5 & it fit perfect,, Cleaned it up a little .. Looks new,, I weld & bolt mine to the frame as I drive mine ever day,,Every little bit helps.. Plus it gives me something to grab a hold of when climbing in the Jeep.. |

John, Additionally, the roll bar will support a bikini top (for use in warm weather). If you've never had such a top, they're the greatest as they provide just enough shade to keep the sun off of your head and just enough roof to keep you from getting soaked in seasonal showers, and allows you to enjoy the passing breezes without being in the confined space of a complete top, even with the doors removed and the rear curtain rolled up. Since you already have it, I'd mount it in a heartbeat! Larry S. |

John A YJ rollbar will not fit due to body width issues(thinking off the top of my head). Many purists wouldn't think of having a rollbar. I found one for mine search the willys forums and craigslist in my area. I have a rollbar for safety in everyday driving, if you get hit the windshield will not support the weight of your jeep nor will your spine. Offroad they are mandatory. Granted the simple hoop rollbar might not save your life in a 45mph rollover, it is better than nada. I would like to live to see my grandkids someday. Post a WTB ad here if that one doesn't fit; http://www.willystech.com/parts/board.shtml Here's one close to you looks like it's out of a '76-81 Cj due to the angle of the vert bar. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/pts/1433940874.html |

A fine winters day back in 1978 found me heading 400 miles south to Arkansas during the beginning stages of a Missouri snowstorm. Looking back I can now see I was a magnet for wild adventures. The snow was piling up fast at over 4" per hour. I was well out of town in my newly rebuilt CJ-2A when I decided to postpone the trip. I was rolling back home at 40 mph when all a sudden the rear axle started to play catch up with the front. As the Jeep spun out of my control I watched the events as if watching slow motion. The rear was now ahead of the front. I could see that the upcoming road shoulder had a steep 45* drop off. When the 2A hit the shoulder in reverse direction it began the dreaded death roll. I held tightly onto the wheel and watched it play out. When halfway through the roll the passenger seat moved foreward dumping all contents from the toolbox. Two full metal tool boxes and a Highlift jack. The Jack came right past my head. Somehow I ducked from the upside down position. Then almost immediately I was back up on all four as the side roll ended. We hit bottom together. Me and The 2A. The Jeep go-devil started right up and I tried to drive up the 30 foot slope but to no use. It was too steep and there was too much snow. Was I ever mad. Now I would finally have to get help. A damn tow truck (pronounced toe truck) was needed to rescue my indestructible jeep. But the jeep didn't look so good. The windshield was crushed and the new top was a rag top. There were cold months ahead of me and I was dependent on that as my only driver . So I bought me a SS Jewels windshield because I couldn't paint outdoors in the winter. That was my main fix. Yes it's true...That 2A never had a roll cage nor seatbelts and it never got them as long as I owned it. Nowadays I depend on my Koenig and I use a belt to hold me in place on the steep side slopes. I believe the half cab will easily outperform a common rollbar. Note: Not suggesting anything from the story above; just giving some insight. |

OT's story reminds me of one my late father-n-law told me many times. In his 2A as well.Only difference was it was on a wet from rain freeway off ramp.He did however have a roll cage, but no seat belts. He walked away with lots of bruises and cuts.He even drove the Jeep home. |
