The 15" wheels are listed in the Parts Manual (PM) under WHEELS GROUP 25-01 -- WHEELS AND ATTACHING PARTS 640800 Rim and disc, 16 x 4.50, assembly..........5 642053 Rim and disc, 15 x 4.50, assembly (Special equipment to accommodate 15 x 7.00 tires)..........5 From the above entries in the PM, you should conclude that 16” is standard and 15” is optional. |

No the 4-1/2" x 15" KH wheels are not considered as rare. There is a relatively small 6.6% difference in the overall rim diameter. Larger diameter provides increased rim to tire contact at the bead. All else being equal an increased bead contact area allows less tire to rim slippage. The 16" wheel has a greater disk area that allows for larger brake systems. If both tires are of equal overall diameter then the 16" tire will tend to be narrower than the 15" tire. Also the 15" will have increased sidewall height compared to the 16" tire. Increased sidewall allows for greater flex but is more prone to puncture. This then culminates in a narrow vs wide tire debate. And that digresses from the original topic. |
