I have a NOS windshield hold down strap for CJ that I bought from AMC Jeep in the early 80's. It looks exactly like Randy's cotton strap but the color is black. Not seen in Randy's pic is the thin curved sheet metal cap that goes on the end of the strap. And of course were all thrilled that Randy has his 3B on the road. |

Believe it or not, those caps are still available to press onto the ends of the web straps, and I've performed that task on several past MV restorations. The caps are actually round, domed shaped pieces of thin brass that simply slip over the end of the workpiece and then pressed onto the material between two jaws, such as a bench vise; (jaws need to be smooth faced however and not serated). |
