I'm trying to rebuild the carburetor on a 1959 CJ3B. Does the Pump Ball Check, Intake (Parts List description)a small ball bearing (also not sure which size in the rebuild kit) go anywhere in particular between the Pump Diaphragm Housing and the Pump Diaphragm ? Does anyone know a source for the Throttle Shaft or it's exact diameter ? Also, there are 2 small brass screws that hold the Throttle valve to the Throttle shaft that appear to be peened over, I would like to know the length and thread count for these. I would appreciate any replies. Thanks.

1959WILLYS,
Welcome to the CJ-3B Bulletin Board !

See: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Photos/Tec...YFBulletin3.JPG

Are you fully aware of what I term the 1 MINUTE TEST concerning the check ball air bleed passage ?

Please identify the specific rebuild kit you are using.
Most kits have 2 small balls included, one is steel the other is aluminum.
Does you kit have a pump discharge check needle ?

Please do not remove the brass screws from the throttle valve without advice. The throttle valve normally is not to be removed.

Thanks for your reply. I am not aware of what you term the 1 MINUTE TEST. The rebuild kit is from Standard Product Systems #1611S and is for multiple model carbs and has both the steel and aluminum balls, along with miscellaneous extra parts. My carb does have a pump discharge check needle. The reason I wanted to disassemble the throttle valve was that it seemed like it was sticking and I thought it was leaking gas around where it goes into the throttle body. I talked to someone(very knowledgeable) at The Carburetor Shop in Eldon , MO and did find out that some gas leakage is normal due to tolerances that allow for expansion and contraction. After I had already taken the carb off and started to reassemble it. Again, thanks.

I am not familiar with the kit you mention.
In my opinion the HYGRADE kit #518 C is the best generic kit available.
But not as good as NOS, OEM or kits from Jon's "The Carburetor Shop".
The Hygrade kit is made by the manufacturer of STANDARD IGNITION PRODUCTS.

Before rebuilding any carburetor it is mandatory that it be properly identified.
If various models are scavanged for parts it is virtually mandatory that the carburetor models be exactly identicle.
This is true of all carburetors.
Only those with extensive books or extensive experience will know what to look for.

As you know the YF series should have a model stamp on the body.
It is located sideways upon the thin web of the fuel well body.

Please first verify the designated model.
Then we can begin to determine if it was converted to another model.
