I just bought my '53 3B and have a few questions for some of you veterans! Any help would be very much appreciated! 1. The rear bumper on my Jeep is rotted beyond repair. I removed the drawbar and drilled out the rivets holding the bumper on, but it appears as though it was welded to the frame rails and to the rear crossmember? Is this original? 2. Does anyone offer a reproduction battery tray for the 3B? I might be able to replace mine with a flat panel but I'd really like to keep the stamped contours if possible. That's about it for now, but I'm sure there will be more as I continue! Thanks guys! -Marc. |

Marc, I'll offer what I know: I'm a bit perplexed when you refer to a rear "bumper", as the 3B had no bumper on the rear (as like they had on the front), but only the drawbar, and that was bolted to the rear crossmember of the frame using bolts, and two additional bolts through holes in the crossmember over the rear axle secured the angled drawbar braces. If you're referring to the rear crossmember itself, yes it would have been riveted to the frame, however the "A" frame attached in the center was welded to that crossmember on most jeeps I've ever seen. Both the rear crossmember and the battery tray are reproduction items that are readily available from most jeep parts vendors. I'd recommend calling carl Walck at Walck's Four Wheek Drive in Bowmanstown, PA, 610 852-3110 as he seems to have most parts always in stock. His website is www.walcks4wd.com Hope this helps you............. |

Thanks Larry. Yes I mean rear crossmember. I got my terminology mixed up. When I heard people talking about a rear crossmember I assumed they meant the V-shaped brace at the rear, not the part that resembles a bumper! Good stuff to know though. That brings up another question though. Is the drawbar supposed to have two flat braces that run back to one of the chassis crossmembers? Mine does, but they've been notched with a torch so I wasn't sure if they were hacked up original or add-ons. Still a lot to learn... Thanks! -Marc. |

Yes Mark, they have factory cut half-moon shaped notches in them, so don't think they've been torched out, *bubba-ized, or farmer-ized by a previous owner. *No dis-respect to anyone nicknamed bubba, or to farmers! |
