I'm painting the tub and dash on my 54 3B. It has the small speedo with 4 seperate gauges around it. What is the best way to remove the temerature gauge without breaking the small cappilary tube? Can the tube be removed from the back of the gauge? Looks pretty fragile

It's not as fragile as it seems. Still, it won't survive a large amount of abuse. Every gauge I've seen has the tube permanently attached to the back of the gauge Disconnect the battery, get a friend and follow the obvious course of action. The friend will carefully guide the capillary tube through the hole in the firewall while you carefully pull the gauge from the dashboard. I used a mirror and a flashlight to see up behind the dash to see how the gauge was clamped into place. This was much easier on my back than standing on my head while twisting into unnatural positions.... Eric |

And don't forget to have either a cork or pipe plug ready to insert into the port when you remove the business end of the cap. tube! |
