I was in a TJ a few months ago and the guy had a hand throttle on the stick shift. I'm told they help offroad to set a cruising crawl and not have to worry about your foot bobbing up and down. The guy joked how it looked like a bike gear shifter, I think he might have mentioned that he heard of someone make one with one. Anyways, perhaps this is a well known mod... The other day I found a junked bike. A few minutes later I had removed the shifter cabling and controls. Thursday I hooked them up to my Jeep making a hand throttle. ![]() It's worked amazingly well. It's hard to hear in the video and I don't even go to the 4th and 5th click position, but it can completely open the throttle: video. So it was free, well, I did have to buy this nut, bolt, and two washers, but that was only like $0.15 at 3B Supply Co, err I mean Tractor Supply Co... ![]() |

I've actually seen the bike shifters attached to the shifter. You can leave one hand on the wheel and the other on the shifter knob and use your fingers (or thumb depending on which side you put it on) to run the throttle. Kind of a neat idea if you are doing a lot of rock crawling for 4 wheeling. Does save the bobbing the throttle going over rocks or things. |
