hydratour, There is some good info here on the CJ3B page. All tops attach the same way to a stock CJ3B. There is a retaining channel on the windshield frame ( just above the glass). There are pictures of this attachment but you'll need to look at a lot of them (owners photos). For example: Here's a shot of the channel: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Photos/Own...dshieldOpen.JPG Good photo of John's jeep with the channel visible and next to it another jeep with the top on: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Photos/Own.../IttelFront.jpg Read here for lots of info: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/SoftTopHistory.html near the bottom is a link to the Service Manual instructions. Plus there is a link to the CJ 3A page on detail photos on how a canvas top is mounted. At the bottom is a link to vinyl tops. There you will see they attach the same way on the windshield frame. There are some references to experimental tops that show different attachment methods. How to attach the top is here with emphasis on after market vinyl: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/SoftTop.html Some of the links are not working but the attachment to the windshield frame matches that of the Service Manual. If you are missing the channel, you'll either need to stick with the snaps or find a replacement. At one time BestTop offered a replacement channel but it didn't appear to be similar to the original. Contacting some of the jeep vendors via email could turn up something. If all else fails, one could be fabricated as it is pretty simple. Hope this helps. |

Russ/hydtr. I'm thinking I saw or read somewhere that MD Juan now produces and sells a replacement channel for the 3B w/s frames, of course someone with a good spotwelder would need to weld it to the frame. Carl Walck will probably know if Juan has such available now. If he doesn't, Marcus at Willys Acres or Daryl at D&L Bensinger probably will. |

I'd recommend making your future life easier and going with the channel, but if you want an alternative method, here's how the Japanese 3B did it (probably bc the wipers are up top):![]() Sgt. Betty at W4H by maclir ![]() They are twist tie downs commonly used in sailing and boat covers. They were on the Jeep when I bought it and I've seen a number of other JP 3Bs with them. I have a commercial bikini top Sun Top that must have come from Japan that uses them. I modified my Bestop Tiger Top to use them. Anyways, I'll probably make a canvas bikini top some day and it'll use these snaps as well. |
