as you have read, i recently purchased a solex carburetor. I am wondering if you guys have any recommendations for an inline fuel filter. along with the solex i am installing a new gas tank and bending a new fuel line. i have run many inline filters but all that i have installed required rubber hose and hose clamps. when i make my line i do not want to have any rubber that could dry rot or leak in the future. i don't know if the fuel bowl filter will be enough by its self or not. any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Solex also has a small brass or copper filter under the fuel inlet. I run the clear plastic fuel filters that way you can see if you are getting fuel but that doesn't help in your case because they need little hoses to connect them. At least they come with them.

If you want to go with just fittings you could use one from a 91 to 94 Chevy truck with the 350 fuel injected. They use one under the cab inside the frame rail. Most if not all parts store stock them. I think the fittings are metric. Most fuel filters for fuel injected engines should have fitting because of the fuel pressure.

I installed a filter in the fuel line to the pump from the tank line. It's low in the compartment to keep away from hot metal.

Bob, if you use rubber hose MADE for fuel passage, you shouldn't have any problems with dry rot or other. The short lengths (and clamps) provided with the filters, are made for that specific purpose; of course you'll have to change the filter from time to time. I use them on my jeep and tractor collection and haven't had any such problems in years.

this is true, the rubber should last the life of the filter. but if i know me as soon as it plugs up i will be tempted to grab another half plugged filter off the shelf and install it. this way i will save me from myself, i will have to slow down and get the right one before i can put it in. now that i think about it i should get 2, 1 for the jeep and one to keep in it just in case it gives me problems on the road. but i agree i don't have anything against those kind of filters, but because i am bending and flaring new lines for the solex i don't want to have to cut them in half to install a rubber hose filter. :)

I feel your pain Bob regarding cutting nice shiny fuel lines in half just to add a filter. I had to do this just recently on a better than museum quality retored '58 John Deere 620 row crop tractor as the carb rebuild cost over $300 with shipping to Ohio and back, but that's the only way the rebuilder will restore and warrant his work on one.

If you're also installing a brand new tank with the new lines, I would,'t think you would have any problems anyway for some time to come, but then again, it's better safe now than sorry later.

I just bought a couple NOS fuel tubes from Peter DeBella.
And I was impressed when they arrived.
Apparently he didn't exactly know that these tubes were for.
They are special factory made "optional" tubes for the Hurricane engine that go from the fuel pump to the carburetor.
Using this setup a "Skinner" brand fuel sediment bowl / filter is attached right next to the carburetor.
No tubing cut outs required.

there's a std rubber hose maybe 6" long between fuel line and pump,
i recently replaced mine with same from walcks, i cut it in two and use
clear fuel filter there;

is a hard line from tank to pump common ?, if eng torques the rubber
would have a little give, on my wrangler fuel inj the hard line has rubber
ends too ...

put the solex on yesterday and i am very pleased with it. although i will give a warning to any new solex owners, when i removed the elbow that came with the solex, just out of pure curiosity i decided to look in the opening to the fuel bowl. boy i am glad i did, the opening was completely blocked off, the casting was not cleaned out i had to use a very fine pick and gingerly peel it out, afterwards i took the brass filter out and blew up through with the air hose. it may have been some kind of spray on coating that blocked it off rather than a casting but nevertheless no gas could have gotten through.
hopefully i can get the tank in today (it is still running off of my plastic jerry can i have on the back).
the rubber hose between the fuel line and the pump is a good idea i never thought about the eng torque. i may put a loop in the line before the pump (like a firewall mounted master cyl).
