I have been trying to find vinyl so I can replace my windows, but so far I am not finding any, I figure I should be able to sew it to the zippers I have if I can come across any. I checked ebay and googled. I may try the upholstery shop Friday. thanks |

I have to have a custom rag top made for mine .. The guy at the upholstery shop I went to dose boats also,,, Nice Clear windows ,, He's going to use the same clear vinyl on mine as he uses on the boats,, If you take the old windows with the zippers they could match it up ... |

Steve you need to drop off the Jeep so they can measure it up.. Mine will be 4 inchs lomger than a stock CJ3-b ,, I would think there has to be a upholstery shop close to you .. I see your in NY Mine is in Md ,, Find someone that has worked on streetrods with rag tops & Boat tops..,, I have to use the top parts from a CJ-5 & make them fit mine,, Make the door frames to fit the opening (that is 4 inchs wider than stock)... Price for mine is $2600 ....& It will look like a best top,,, I would think Best Top could come up with what you need if yours is stock,,, |

If you're anywhere near an Amish community, look for a tarp shop or upholstery shop. They do great work and cheap. |

This will be my route. I have an old BestTop and I like its fit better than the new BestTop. The doors are not as wide on the old version when compared to the new version. A local shop is what I'll use. I want my new top to work more like a current wrangler top where the sides are detachable. Finding a shop that understands what you want is key. I've had bad experiences in the past. |

I know what your saying Rus! But hey Chris, if you feel you can sew clear vinyl to your zipper why not take a shot at making your own - I mean the whole thing. It may sound a little nutty but just take a moment and look at how these tops are constructed. All straight lines with no fancy tucks or folds. I've made two one of PVC and the other of canvas. Don't mean to blow my own horn (well maybe a little really pleased how this canvas one turned out) but just to say you can save some serious bucks if you nail down some basic machining skills. Here's a few pics of the first fitting it's a lot more snug now, not exactly hot rod standard but in time with practice... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I like the color should match my dark green pretty good,, Butt do they have to be sealed or something ,,, I found this on a freinds websight he's got a sweet CJ3A he completly restored,, If I go the Canvas top Ill get one from BEACH WOOD CANVAS CO.. |

This is my first time out with a DIY canvas rag top. From what I've been told I believe some treatment is advisable. Although in my Brit army days bouncing around in Landrovers I don't recall doing too much to them. I guess shower proofing must have been done at the factory. One story I heard was that back in the day, some went as far as rubbing the seams with bees wax.. don't know if that's done any more with amount products available. Just Googling "canvas water proofing products" throws up a bunch of 'em. Winters not too far away and I still have to re-skin my door frames so any and all suggestions appreciated!

Phil Ive heard about the bees wax too .. just not sure if it would hold up to the salt they put on our roads,,,They are starting to use a liquid calcium on our bridges too,, I used a product called NU-Vinyl on my Black vinyl top every so often.. Made it look sharp after the harsh winters..& before winter hit too... |

Thanks Phil for the encouragement, I did make a sun top out of canvas for it a month back, My machine will handle it so I am going to give it a shot! By the way I used paraffin on the canvas that I used for the sun top, I rubbed it on heavy and let the sun bake it |
