Hello All. I'm new here. Recently found a 54 CJ3B needing some work. I am needing to replace the fuel pump that came with it although it wasn't attached. The guy I bought it from had a plate over the hole and said he was going to get an electric pump. I would like to stay original. It is an AC pump with the glass sediment bowl. Dual action with the 2 vacuum tubes. There is a hole corroded thru the carb inside where the glass bowl would sit. So that piece is most likely not repairable. Question is, can I get this kind of fuel pump to try and keep it original or should I just get the new style that doesn't have the glass bowl? Thanks for your help and am looking forward to this project! |

The mechanical fuel pump that replaced the one with the glass bowl works well. Also its one thing thats not electrical you have to worry about wiring. The style that is the to replace with is NAPA AFP 572. The other one that is listed is the one that uses the vacuum system that runs the windshield wipers. The vaccum wiper system is inefficient, from what I have heard. cap off the vacuum system, and run electric wipers on my 53. Good luck |

Kinger, Welcome to the CJ-3B Bulletin Board ! I primarily recommend: 1) new old stock parts and assemblies (NOS) 2) OEM parts 3) rebuilt original parts 4) lastly...new old replacement stock (NORS) It may be possible to locate another fuel pump for parts. What specific model is the old fuel pump ? The AC fuel pump model number is usually found on the thin edge of the mounting flange. Other AC models may be partly interchangable. The original glass fuel dome provides certain advantages. Also you can post a WTB in the appropriate forum. I find little fault with Trico vacuum wipers with a vacuum pump is installed. Stock standard CJ-2A without a vacuum pump can be a concern. I see lots of nonfunctional electrical replacement wipers. |

My pump is AC 4138. I've looked but so far haven't found one like this one with the glass bowl. Just might have to order the new style.

Recent fuel pump post: http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_B...?showtopic=4282 Seems that your particular fuel pump may be an admixture of Willys and Chevy parts. See: ebay # 140748055522 |
