I have a set of 11" backing plates for my CJ3B project. Has anyone ever powder coated backing plates or is it better to paint?

I have have 3 pair of plates and would like to get them cleaned up and ready to go on my project. Plan to have them blasted and painted or coated. Not sure which would be better.

Thanks

RVS

I did mine with POR-15 engine paint, has to be high temp stuff. Powder coating would work, but if I'm thinking correctly, the shoes rub on the inside of the backing plate under normal operation, so it might rub the powder coating off.

In my humble opinion it's pretty hard top beat a.... sandblast / 2K epoxy / topcoat method.
POR 15 is a primer converter and provides no advantage if you sandblast.
Make sure you first build up with weld then grind smooth where the brake shoes gouge into the plates.
In other words the 11" Bendix backing plates will generally need to have the "shoe guides" repaired.
