My 12 volts generator and regulator sometimes charges sometimes not. If I go and mess with the regulator points it will charge, but what a pain. How do you clean and or adjust the points in them? What is the point gap? |

Please identify the generator make and model. Please identify the regulator make and model. The regulator must be compatable with the generator. Do you have a Universal Service Manual ? Which one ? The USM goes into depth explaining the regulator funtions and details. |

I wish I could tell you all of that info, but there is no tag on either. It's a 12 Autolite external ground setup, with the regulator that Carl Walck sells...That's pretty much what I know. |

Bob, In my experience I got to that point and gave the job to a professional. I know the contact points are bendable (adjustable). The amount you bend it changes when they close or open to charge. I don't have the gap or open/close values necessary to adjust them. For the same reason, I don't adjust my home's air conditioner. Luckily for me, I have a local Alternator/Starter shop that is very good. I picked up the jeep after a day and noticed it was charging just fine. I asked what they did and the answer was a nonchalant, "I adjusted the regulator." |

Can you upload a pic of the generator ? You at least need to verify Autolite vs. Delco Remy. |
