i have a 2003 denali quad steer pick up truck. the frame is starting to pick up some rust as we only live a few blocks from the water. i plan to keep this truck. should i get undercoating or spray with, i think larry mentioned a few months back, just spray diesel fuel on the rusty parts? will the undercoating seal in the rust and just make it worse in 10 years time? bob in nc 54,61,61,64 3b 68 m715 beaufort, nc |

New vehicles have sooo many nooks and crannies, I don't know if undercoating would help. Besides, now that you've got it, yes, undercoating now would just trap the rust against the metal so it could continue unimpeded. I know washing the salt off on a very regular basis would help but don't know if it would prevent it. I have used oil to temporarily hold rust until I could remove it. Rust converters are on the market but I am not an expert. There is a thread on the 2A Forum about rust treatment. I like Por15 but you'll need to prep well before treatment. Good luck. |
