What signs should I be looking for here?

The spiral cam should be smooth with no rust, no scoring, no deep pits, no chips nor any gouges.
Minor pits and imperfections are considered servicable.
Looks fairly good from what I can tell.

Send a close-up pic of the tapered pins as seen on the sector shaft.

Ok, now I know what to look for. Here's the sector shaft. Last two shots aren't too good, going to have to adjust my focus.

The tapered sector pins appear to be in especially good condition.
Otherwise please indicate if you see any notable flat spots on them.

There are two slight flat spots on each pin. Perhaps you can make them out.

NORMALLY....
When the tapered sector pins get notable flat spots I usually recommend a procedure called the "sector taper pin rotation".
To perform a sector taper pin rotation the taper pins are de-swaged via oxyacetylene heat focussed onto the rear pin swage.
When the pin swage reaches a very dull red; the pin is rotated 90* to a new position.
The pin is grasp very firmly with vise grips around the collar thats just under the tapered section.
Small gouges in the collar may occur but will have no effect on the tapered portion of the pin.
Sometimes the pins must be swaged back tight (hammered) after the desired rotation to prevent any further rotation.
Do not heat the pin swage more than needed to rotate them 90* .
And do not quench !

I say those sector pins are not perfect but they are in pretty darn good shape.
I suggest you might leave them as they are.

Finally, something I don't have to replace !!

I've noticed that those photos really show the importance of cleaning before re-assembly. Not bad for a phone camera.

Thanks,

John

Make sure the sector shaft bushings found inside the Ross box are tight.
Bushing play (side motion) should not be percievable using hand presure.
Replace bushings if required.
Replace the sector seal unless its determined to be in VGC upon close inspection.
