I'm guessing that XXX assemblies are YYY's

I know I'm right! Tell me what the XXX is and I'll tell you what the YYY is (are)
It's just my luck that something good is going to happen to me today.

After inspecting several I have determined some facts.

XXX = Carter YF 938 SD carburetors.
These carburetors are Jeep replacement stock.
The boxes are identified as W/O # 806305
That number represents a Carter YF 938 S but these are actually a model YF 938 SD
Carter Carburetor went out of business in the early 1990's.
The St. Louis manufacturing plant still remains todate.

Manufacture estimated to be in the late 1980'S
These appear to be factory rejects or possibly from an outsourced manufacture.
If OEM You can readily see how U.S. PRIDE / QUALITY was diminished.
If outsourced well what can I say ? CHINA ?

These carburetors bear no identification markings.

The consistant main defect /appears to be a crumbled accelerator pump casting.

Hello All, I inspected these carbs and have come to the same conclusion as Oldtime. The quality of the clips, hardware and components are sub-standard. At the time of manufacture, the rubber parts were not constructed to withstand the effects of the current Ethanol fuels we are forced to use. lThe rubber parts will further disintegrate/melt with the Ethanol in today's fuels. They are not marked "938SD" and do not say "Made in USA" on the castings. In my opinion, these are only good for cores and would have to be rebuilt and gauged to determine serviceability. What's the old saying "BUYER BEWARE".

Some of the boxes do not even have the Carter Carburetor label.
After thinking it through I am convinced that they are from an outsourced manufacturer.

Hmmmmmm? Perhaps some of the original repros made (and then dumped back here in the states) by the guy in India who now gets right at four bills on e-Bay for them - I wonder?
