Hi Balesh- My database indicates your DJ3A was a base model(Model 8202) and your production number (24016) indicates it was built in early April, 1964. April 1964 production for DJ3A Jeeps began with serial number 24109 (7 units before yours) and ended with 24220, for a total DJ3A production for April, 1964 of 111 units. when built in Toledo, those Jeeps had a gasoline 4 cylinder Lhead engine of 134.2 cubic inches or approximately 2.2 liters, with 60 horsepower, a 3 speed manual transmission with the shifting mechanism on the steering column. Does your DJ3A have right hand drive or does it have the conventional left hand drive? Some of the DJ3As I have seen photos of in India have right hand drive and have been converted to four wheel drive. I will add your information to my database. I hope this helps. If you have any questions that I might be able to help you with, you can email me at: colins60vette@cox.net here in the USA. |

Thank you freind. My dj3a is a original right hand drive vehicle. Its original paint was white, so I have painted it in the same colour.I traced this colour as per the instructions given by another freind in cj3b board. It has 5 wheels of 4 studs and the tire size I put is 6.40*15.when I bought the vehicle it was equipped with oil bath aircleaner. It has its original transmission box.The addition made by the seller was a tool box as in the dash boards of other jeeps. It has a tail board and in floor it has the catchers which will accomodate thr rear seats legs. But the previous owner changed the engine to a disel B M C,of 1800 cc.With much effort I can replace it with L134 overhauled engine.I have conviniently modified the spare wheel holder bracket in the centre of the tail board with out damaging the raised part of the (bulge where the words WILLYs) tail board.I will post photos of my jeep A S AP. Thanks and regards. |

Hi Balesh- Any photos you can forward will be greatly appreciated. It sounds like your DJ3A is typical to most of the DJ3A Jeeps in the USA with the exception of the right hand drive. I have one other DJ3A in my database that is also a 1964 model, with right hand drive that was sold originally to a city in New Jersey, USA, probably for reading utility meters or similar function. It has an automatic transmission, however, from the factory. Some of the earlier DJ3A Jeeps from India I have in my database and photos file are earlier models, 1962-63 models before the model number changed from 56337 to the 8200 series. They appear to be right hand drive with 4 wheel drive, possibly military units and a couple are still two wheel drive. Good luck! Colin |

hi Colin, After loosing out on the last dj3a we had discussed,I am again in pursuit for the same, up for sale again after a lot of persuation to its owner. Though he has changed it to a diesel heart in the last year or so. But good news is that he has not yet discarded the side valve engine(petrol) the ibeam and the differentials. Hope to get my hands on the beauty very soon and restore it to its full glory. One doubt troubling me was The dj3a s manufactured in 1964 were 6volt or 12 volt? Hope to get back with my very own dj3a.and discuss it in detail here on the forum. Forgot to mention -had paid a vsit to Mr.Balesh's place to witness the white beauty, and believe me its wonderful. Hope to hear from you. Regards. Dinesh |

Don't know much about DJs, but I was looking at a 1964 CJ3B last week with 4,200 miles on it that was 12 Volt, so I'd say odds are that a 1964 DJ would be the same. I'd love to see photos of what you guys in India have! |

Hi guys, I read when looking for Overdrive info a while back, that Willys started the 12Volt systems in 1957. Now as we all know, things are not always consistent, especially when it comes to Dj's and exports. Inspection of light bulb numbers would tell you what voltage was last used on that vehicle. Good Luck |
