I'm in the process of putting a Koenig top on my jeep and wanted to get my windshield frame adjusted properly before I put the roof on. I can get 66-1/8" on the passenger side from top inside of windshield frame to inside of rear tub. On the driver's side, I get 65-7/8". Best I can tell, I'm out of adjustment room on the cowl bracket. I guess I could put some weather stripping under the rubber seal, but I really don't want to have to do that.... Am I missing anything here? Thanks!

When the W/S is correctly positioned it should measure exactly 66-1/2". Take all measurements 6" inward from the sides. Measure the diagonal distance from inner tub at rear to inner W/S frame at top. The W/S pivot arms frequently get straightened or bent. Seems that you need to remove your W/S frame and slightly increase the bends. Stand on the frame. Then use a short pipe extension to tighten the bend radius.. Measure before bending and after, both right and left sides. Jeeper 50 had a severe windshield condition with a twisted frame. http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_B...?showtopic=3302 |

My arms were also bent. They even showed stress cracks running along the center of the inner side. It is very possible that over the years where your windshield was being used as a grab handle to get in and out of the jeep that it would not measure the same from either side. Another measurement to consider is the w/s angle when resting on the tub. http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Drawings.html |

Thanks guys, all is good now. I had to run out and get a 4' pipe to fit over the arm to bend it a little, but my mere 225 lbs was not enough weight to keep the windshield down. So, I parked a jeep tire up on the frame to hold it down. Like Jeff said in his post - it is not for the squeamish. I don't know how I still have an uncracked windshield, but I do. Probably not recommended to do this with glass in the frame, but all's well that ends well. Thanks again! |
