I traded another member my alternator setup for a 12 volt generator/regulator to keep it more original looking. Since I installed it, it's been kind of hit or miss, mostly miss. I took it off and took it to my generator guy. Had a stuck brush, and he installed a new bushing and bearing. When he bench tested it, he discovered that the regulator was intermittent and would work if you smacked it. He's a generator guy from way back and 5 minutes of looking produced a NOS regulator that was a perfect match and a perfect fit for my jeep. He said it had to have been on the shelf in the box for at least 30 years, because he knew those parts had been there since his son was born. So $40 later, including the regulator, and I'm on the road, just in time for winter storage! Actually, I'm running her in the Kent State homecoming parade this saturday, then putting her on the work side of the garage for installation of the Newgren hitch and a suitable pump setup. |

I've been perfectly content to use the stock 12 volt generators ever since I began driving Willy Jeeps. |
