Over here in England a lot of the stuff you guys have is really rare and I've long wanted an aftermarket hardtop for one of my Jeeps. Anyway, off the back of an M38 that someone bought in the US and exported to the UK to sell here, thanks to eBay I was able to buy a Sears hardtop. I have read the hardtop page on here and think I have one of the self assembly aluminium type that Sears sold. It's for an M38 so will probably end up on my CJ-2A project but it has a plate inside that reads , 'Sears Roebuck and Co. Allstate Jeep Body. Model No 7346111.' On the outside back tailgate (top half) is a badge that reads Hard Fast. The top needs work but is worth saving. It has vertical sliding windows in the doors and has horizontal (camper-style) sliding windows in the sides behind the doors. Does anyone know if the Model No is the catalogue number for this specific type or is it a serial number? Many thanks, JC |

I dug through my old Jeep file and found a page out of a Sears Allstate catalog for hard tops. The part number you listed was not the same, but that doesn't mean they didn't change their designations at some point. I don't have a date, but I have a lot of parts brochures from the late 50's,, so I would think this page is the same vintage. I also found an entire Sears Jeep Parts catalog, Catalog 28CA 1000F, but it didn't list tops. The page shows part number 28 K M6111 for the $145.50 top and 28 K M6114 for the $214.50 top. The first one ends in 6111, so that may be it. Look at the prices!

The model numbers shown in the 1971 catalogue on the Sears Hardtop page at http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Hardtops/SearsHardtops.html start with different letters and numbers, but also end with 6111, 6112, etc. I'm guessing that the number 7346111 is serial number 734 of that model. Derek |
