in the past few weeks i have discovered an odd symptom of my solex carburetor.
i have driven my jeep in the cold many times and the solex performs great.
recently here in ohio we have gotten a few little snow storms, and i have noticed that my jeep just decided that it would no idle every time it snowed.

at first i thought the float was sticking open, because the jeep was loading up, but i quickly dismissed that looking at the fuel bowl on my fuel pump. (no fuel flowing through it, hence float closed)

so i checked the choke, cable was in and fully open.
then i remembered that the choke is different than the conventional design with the flapper.

then finally i decided to pull the choke and give it a smack back in, once i did this the jeep immediately straightened out and ran like new.

the reason for this happening only when it snows is beyond me, maybe atmospheric conditions are somehow different making something within the choke freeze up.

and since i drive it every day i can verify that it absolutely happens only when it snows, and not just when it is cold, it snowed 3 times, and loaded up 3 times only when we had a snow showers.

so if anyone with a solex experiences this symptom you know what to try!

good luck and happy jeepin - Bob

Carb ice! A very dangerous condition for small aircraft and maybe jeeps with solex carbs too.

I have a Solex and will see if I have the same issue here in Ga, if it ever snows! LOL
