Hi guys, i have a question about s tubes on 11" brakes. The question is how come i have never seen or heard anyone talk about them. Are they required for any size brakes other than 9"? If so where can i purchace them, or do i have to bend my own? Thanks in advance. Willow Green |

Alot easier to bend your own using a block of sturdy wood and two chunks of 3/4" dowel. just drill two 3/4 holes spaced the distance apart equal to the diameter of tube. A little practice and don't forget to flare the ends before starting the bends. I have had three reproductions of these tubes from parts houses and they never fit. Someone else here might have a better way but this was the way i reproduced mine. Just remember no copper line. |

CJ 11" Bendix brakes 1972-1976 CJ never used an "S" tube connection. Two seperate front brake hoses are attached at the frame to a bracket via a clip. The other end of each hose threads directly into a front wheel cylinder. There were several slightly different wheel cylinders used for various years and models of Jeep with 11" Bendix brakes. Only slight differences are noted between the various Jeep cylinders that were used. All front cylinders for 11" Bendix use 1-1/8" diameter pistons. If converting an early model 25/ 27 front axle to use 11" Bendix brakes you can retain the "S" tubes. Please read: http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_B...p?showtopic=847 |

Thanks all, the advice is well taken, and the pics referenced by oldtime were a great help! By the way i bid on a pair of hose guards on ebay that were of solid design, not bent or spot welded and were said to be expermental military design and are twice as thick as standard. These will go a long way in protecting those hoses. I just love this forum, Willow Green |

I asked John how he got the right length for the new tubes, He said he used a piece of weed eater string, put in the tube and cut the same length as the original S tube to bend his 11" tubes up. If you keep the stock wheel cylinders, the stock flex hose can be connected to the brakeline at the original short flex line to hard line connection at the leaf spring side of the steering knuckle, it leaves a loop of flex line above the knuckle. That's how my brake lines are run. John's installation will fool even the pros in a car show and looks stock too, heck even Ken likes it.
