I want to upgrade my brakes and was planning on installing discs in front and 11" drums in back.I was told by the vendor that my stock 16" wheels aren't large enough to accommodate the front discs. I really want to keep the stock look and have already painted my wheels and had tires fitted to them. I then considered keeping the rear brakes standard (9") and just installing 11" drums in front. Will they work with my standard OEM wheels? |

All 16" Kelsey Hayes (KH) wheels will easily fit over the 11" Bendix drums. Renegade 8"x 15" KH wheels (tube type) will not fit over the 11"Bendix drums. I believe all other 15" KH wheels should fit over the 11" Bndix drums. Some wheel grinding is required to fit 11" Bendix drums inside the Renegade 8"x 15" KH wheels. The round head rivots must be ground down and also the inner edge of the disk. Also note that only non finned type drums can be made to fit inside those wheels. Non finned 11" Bendix drums were standard on 1972-1973 CJ. Finned type drums were used beginning with 1974 CJ. Non finned 11" Bendix drums were also on postal jeeps 1972-1975. |

Dang, that makes me wonder what kind of wheels I have on the '64 3B. I thought they were the original wheels. They were rusty enough to be originals. They are 15" and are 4.5" wide. I have 700x15 inch tires on them. The wheels fit fine with the 11 inch drums both front and back.

What other wheel options were there? I have original wheels (15") from a 1959 FC170 on my 3B, and the 11" brakes fit fine. |

I read somewhere that on the '64 3B you could get either 15 or 16 inch wheels from the dealer. That's all I know about it. |

With a little grinding on the inside of the rim, you can fit 16" rims over front disc brakes, at least over disc brakes from a 77-78 CJ. Not sure about the chevy caliper conversion. |
