Well the Carter YF 938 SD isn't to bad but it's leaking gas around the throttle shaft. I've been thinking about putting a 'kit' in it but that wouldn't fix the throttle shaft. I got a quote of $ 188.00 plus shipping from one place but I didn't mention the throttle shaft to them and don't know how much those bushing jobs go for.. Other carburetor places want up to $400. for a rebuild. I've seen the Solex for sale for $120. but don't know anything about them. I read somewhere that I would have to install a low preessure fuel pressure regulator for the Solex to work right. So, what's a guy to do? Any recommendations?

I would look into Recarbco in Pittsburg,Ca. I have had a few done there and all worked great. 189.00 for a 1 BBL rebuild last time I used them. You can send it to them and when finished they send it back.

I have a Solex for my 63 3B and it works great without a pressure regulator. It was given to me by a friend of mine who went back to the stock setup on his.
I'd probably take Ramblin's advice though if I was considering purchasing one. The Carter is a much better product and for the money, I'd rather have my Carter rebuilt.

Well the Carter YF 938 SD isn't to bad but it's leaking gas around the throttle shaft.

This condition does not necissarily imply a bad throttle shaft.
It implies a flooded condiion which is the effect from having too much fuel in the fuel well.
YF carburetor flooding most likely indicates a bad or inncorrectly sized float valve.

So , I should take a peek in the float bowl before I do anything else?

I sure would.
I'd measure the fuel depth whenever the problem emerges.
