I have not licked this problem but I know its not fuel related as discussed in prior posts. I think its electrical in nature. I am focusing in on the coil. although new it may be bad. Is this a likely cause of my problem? |

I don't think so. Normally when an ignition coil goes bad its become shorted and so it no longer funtions. Sometimes an ignition coil intermittently goes bad. In that case it is very hard to start the engine but it seems to function O.K. once you get it started. A bad condensor fits your scenario because it typically shorts out after it heats up. |

So you think it may be the condenser rather than the coil. That's an inexpensive quick fix. |

A condensor can be tested for resistance otherwise replace it with a known good condensor. The consensor for a CJ Autolite 6 volt system should have from .23 to .26 microfarads of capacitance. The consensor for a CJ Autolite 12 volt system should have from .25 to .28 microfarads of capacitance. |

Do you have a 12 v to 6 volt resistor on your ignition system? |

The reason I asked about the resister is because we used to run a bunch of Chrysler Corp vehicle's . The had the 12 v to 6 v ceramic resister on the cowling. I saw lots of failures to the ignition when the resister would heat up and separate the connection. Got so everybody carried a spare in the glovebox. |
