As of 10:30 (CST) a.m., temp on my back porch is reading right at 70 and is supposed to climb a little more by early afternoon. Think the low here last night was 49. Clear blue cloudless skies outside currently. A story on the front page of the Houston Chronicle this morning states the weather service says that this area of the US has most likely seen it's coldest days for the year (got to 29 on the north side of Houston one day last week, 31 on the south side where we're located - in a separate city & county). I certainly hope the forecasters are correct as my hands and fingers no longer operate well in the cold temperatures; (it's an aging thing, ha!). Wish all of you could be here to enjoy this warming trend as we'd get Jamie Powers to pull his nice BBQ trailer pit over, smoke some of his tasty meats and eat well, perhaps even with some southeast Texas brew! |

I am glad to know a weather report Larry. I am close to the Canadian boarder, Grand Rapids MI. Currently 8 degrees and Snow flurries. Low of 3. Tomorrow snow and a flight out of Detroit at 7:00 pm to good old warm Houston. Ice on the window of the hotel this morning, on the inside! For us Southern folks, do you know that deicing chemicals on roads stops working at around 17 degrees? Fact you should know if your job dictates you freeze your you now what's off for work! Also, four layers of clothing, hats, gloves and ear muffs only make 8 degree weather not painfully when having to fill your rental car up, not comfortable! Southern born and thankful this time of year! |

It's been in the teens for the last week or so here in Spokane Wa. we still have snow on the ground, but pretty cler on the roads. The big issue here has been fog for the last week or so and with the cold temps. black ice is always a threat on the roads. Tonite is Jan 22 nd. and we are looking at the inversion to lift and expecting some snow. Our skiing areas are loving it. When you get above 3000 ft. the sky is clear and the snow is perfect for skiing. I am not going to get the HH out unless we get some good snow in town. Dick W. Spokane Wa. |

Jamie, that's what Candy experienced in Salt Lake City week before last - I'm very happy that deep white cold stuff didn't follow her back to Houston! She did mention however that the cold there is a very dry cold, not like the wet cold we experience here. Come on home brother.......................... |

Eagle River, WI Monday morning 8AM 13 Below Zero F In case anybody is interested, I went canoeing Sunday morning. It was a balmy 10 degrees above zero. We had to break ice to get from shore to open water. Then, farther down the channel it was frozen shore to shore so we did the icebreaker bit. Lots of fun. |
