Hello, My 54 CJ3B had a piece of angle iron for a front bumper held on by two 5/16 bolts. I took that off and it looks like the frame has been cut off. I am posting pictures to show what I'm talking about. I would like to put an original looking front bumper back on. Do I need to add some channel to the front of the frame rails or are these original? ![]() Left front frame rail. ![]() Right front frame rail. Do these look original or cut off? Thanks, John |

I would guestimate about 3 inches have been cut off. Just from looking at mine. |

John, Sometimes looking for a specific image to show an area in question is a challenge. Here's a link to a topic concerning a box insert on the front frame area that will help illustrate how much you're missing: http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_B...?showtopic=4494 From the images you'll see how much was chopped off in front of the spring mounts. You'll probably want to write a "thank you" note to your PO for his help. If I were to toss in a suggestion, I would offer the absolute easiest fix would be to locate a donor frame that has an intact bumper. Measure it, cut it to match and weld it. Fabricating those frame ends and then buying and mounting a replacement bumper would seem a bit more complicated. Check here under Buy/Sell, WillysTech Buy/Sell (links below) g503 Buy/Sell as well as Ebay, Craigslist etc. You may also want to check with salvage yards for jeeps (several advertise on WT) or go to Grover's list to see if there's a place closer to you. http://www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys/parts.html With a little perseverance, you'll find a replacement. |

Don't you just love precision BUBBA work? 2x on the donor frame, but most of those will also be mangled in some manner. If you just want a good mounting for a replacement bumper, I would just make "C" frame sections the proper length and weld them on. THEN BOX IT-all the way back to the cross member. A bird's mouth reinforcement piece on the outside would also be a good idea. Not the area where you want any flex. |

OK Thanks for the replies. I was hoping the replies were "ya that's original". Why would someone cut off the frame? Must have gotten bent I guess. At least now I know what I need to do. Thanks again, John |

Kinger, that's a bummer that someone cut that off...never know what Bubba can do when he gets a torch or a hacksaw. Someone here will have the section you need. |

John, Don't know how close this is but it's a good example of possibilities if you keep your antenna out: http://www.willystech.com/parts/messages/34407.shtml |
