On the original carriers there are 4 bolt hole mounting points that are indented into a cone shaped pattern. Can anyone tell me what and how the original bolts were mounted? Is there any thing like a rubber mounting piece that goes into the inverted cone in the carrier? |

div, Over on g503 they have a forum dedicated to Gerry Cans. I do remember reading about spacers (can't remember if it was in a forum post or a description on spacers provided by a vendor). I did find this via Google: http://jeepdraw.com/images/jeepdraw/ADOBE_...uel-Carrier.pdf At least it gives bolt sizes. |

If the can holder was mounted to a jeep's tailgate, 4 spacers (I'll have to measure the spacers on my M38, but think they're 3/8" thick, about the diameter of a hjalf dollar and had 3/8" holes in the center) were used between the holder and the gate so that the upper portion of the jerry can would not rub against the roll at the top of the tailgate. No rubber cushions, grommets, etc. were used in the mounting holes when installing the holders, though the gov't. regularly used flat washers and lock washers when installing vehicle accessories. |

div4gold, check out my rear tire, G.I. can and misc rack on the rear of our 54 CJ-3B on the blog " "CJ-3B's in the snow", page # 2. There are no additional holes drilled in the rear of this jeep. Our rack folds down at the rear cross member and latches at the tail gate chain lugs on the body with spring loaded pins.. I designed this rack in 1968 for our 1968 CJ-5 and had made a couple for sale then. It fits the HH too. The luggage rack is from "Steel Horse" mfg. and has the can holders already on it. Dick W. That worked pretty good OT, I guess I'm guilty of not reading sticky's. Too bad the 'search' button doesn't work like that without all the rigamarole. |

"Rigamarole" - now that's a word I haven't heard in many years, but I recall my dad used it often, and I too probably picked it up as well. Oh, how I cherish the many fond memories I have of the growing up in the 50's and 60's! |

Yeah Dick, once I got squared away with the search function I got a look at your 3B. You have a real functional looking carrier on your Jeep. A lot of engineering went into that. I've finally got mine finished and got a estimate on powder coating it. I will be taking it in Monday. |
