This Month's CJ3B Page Photo; Impressive!

Well, since no one else has mentioned this month's photo (and accompanying story) posted by our fine webmaster Derek, I'll step up and state how nice it is to occasionally view photos of the various industrial uses of the 3B Jeeps.

With the road striping Jeep posted, I kinda-sorta like the looks of the center grille mounted lamp - reminds me of a cyclops charcter I saw once in an Aladdin movie; (I can just imagine what the stripes would look like if they were painted after dark, ha!).

All kidd'n aside, it amazes me to see the many roles all Jeeps, whether 2A, 3A, 3B, 5's or 6's, etc., have played in the various industries since they were first introduced on the open market - from plowing fields to digging trenches to fighting fires and more.

Derek, please continue to keep us happily entertained with your many 3B photos!

I'll chime in too, Larry! These old photos, like all the Time Life images, tell a story. I can stare at them for a long time as each one has a lot of detail.

It's really cool seeing an old jeep engaged in some kind of work. It seems they were adapted to just about everything.

BTW, in the second photo there's an Esso sign. Wasn't that the pre-Exxon brand?

That may be correct Rus regarding Exxon, though down this way, before Exxon stations were re-branded, all displayed HUMBLE oval signs, referring to the Humble Oil & Refining Co. Along the same lines, I'm starting to see some local Chevron stations here are once again displaying GULF signs. Who knows, guess we could eventually see some Standard Oil of New Jersey signs at stations, ha!

I enjoyed the photo as well. In fact I sent it to a friend in Vancouver to show him. Not a Jeep guy but a Power Wagon guy so not all bad. :-) He really enjoyed it, wrote back and said he lives just above this bridge and can see that very spot from his front window. Thought that was pretty cool.

Neat to see this photo. for our US counterparts, the Esso brand still exists in Canada and is the short form of Imperial oil. Right now in FLA and have noticed the absence of chevron and have seen the Gulf brand. Gulf died in Canada about 25 yrs. ago.
Back to the photo, how did they manage to get the overspray off the front tire and lower cowl.? Wonder if the paint pump was PTO driven?

Yes, I think Esso is still used in most of the world -- Exxon is used only in the US. The name ("S-O") was created by Standard Oil of New Jersey.

I'm guessing that the 3B on the cover was very new when it was photographed, which might explain how clean it is. I like the picture in the article, of the 2A in Seattle with one "whitewall." On the other hand, the 3A in Seattle is pretty clean.

I would really like to find more examples of these Jeeps. There are more photos of the 2A and 3A in the Seattle archives (also a motorcycle set up for painting) but they are smaller in size.
